The Google Play feature graphic

1024 × 500, mandatory, and the first thing anyone sees on your listing. It is also the asset most often thrown together five minutes before publishing.

Proportions drawn to scale. The dashed area is where a promo video’s play button lands.

Specification

Dimensions1024 × 500 pxExact. Play does not scale a near-miss.

Aspect ratio2.048 : 1Very wide. Portrait compositions do not survive it.
Where it appearsTop of your listingAbove the screenshot gallery, and in some Play promotional surfaces.

Where you can and cannot put things

The banner is rendered at different sizes and with different overlays depending on the surface. These zones hold across all of them.

Centre~440 × 200 pxIf you attach a promo video, Play overlays a play button here. Keep your logo and any critical text out of the middle.
Outer edges~5% all roundDifferent Play surfaces crop the banner slightly differently. Leave the perimeter as background.
Left thirdSafeThe most reliable place for a logo or wordmark across every surface that renders the graphic.
Bottom edgeRiskySome layouts sit UI chrome or a gradient over the lower strip. Avoid baselines of text there.

Five things that make it work

01

One line, not a paragraph

The banner is 500 px tall and often rendered much smaller. A single short value statement, or nothing at all beyond the logo, beats a feature list every time.

02

It must agree with the gallery below it

The feature graphic and the first screenshot appear within a few hundred pixels of each other. If the palettes and type do not match, the listing reads as assembled by two different people.

03

Show the product, not a stock photo

Abstract stock imagery tells a browser nothing. A device, a character, a signature UI element, or a clean brand mark all outperform a generic gradient with a smiling person on it.

04

Design for both light and dark

Play renders on light and dark backgrounds. A banner with a near-white background and a thin border vanishes on one of them. Use a defined background colour, not an implied one.

05

No store badges, no fake UI

Do not include "Get it on Google Play" badges, star ratings you have not earned, or fake device chrome. All three are policy problems, not just design ones.

Feature graphic questions

What size is the Google Play feature graphic?+

1024 × 500 pixels, PNG or JPEG, with no transparency. It is required — a Play Store listing cannot be published without one.

Where does the feature graphic appear?+

At the top of your store listing, above the screenshot gallery, and in some of Play's promotional and editorial surfaces. If you attach a promo video, the feature graphic becomes the video's poster frame with a play button overlaid on its centre.

What should I avoid putting in the centre?+

Your logo and any critical text. When a promo video is attached, a play button sits over roughly the central 440 × 200 px. Anything under it is hidden for every user who sees the video variant.

Can I reuse a screenshot as the feature graphic?+

Not directly — a 9:16 screenshot cropped to 2.048:1 loses almost everything. Build a separate wide composition that uses the same palette, type and message as the gallery it sits above.

Does App Mockup Generator AI produce feature graphics?+

The generator produces device-framed screenshot artwork rather than the wide banner. You can export a mockup at original resolution and place it into a 1024 × 500 composition, but the banner itself is a separate design.

The gallery that sits below the banner is what the Play screenshot generator produces.
